Hotel Inside the Airport? Navi Mumbai Introduces a New Transit Hospitality Model

Airport hospitality is taking another step forward in India.

An 80-room Swirl Transit Hotel has been launched at Navi Mumbai International Airport, giving passengers the option to stay inside the airport environment rather than travelling outside the terminal for accommodation.

The hotel is designed around a very specific traveller need — short stays.

Guests can choose between four-hour and overnight stays, with facilities including rooms, showers, Wi-Fi, workstations, dining, in-room service, housekeeping and other hotel services.

The property is located at the arrivals level of Terminal 1 and includes six room categories, from single and twin rooms to suites.

The concept is particularly relevant for passengers dealing with long layovers, early departures, late arrivals and business travel.

And there is a bigger story here.

Airport hospitality is moving beyond the traditional airport hotel. Instead of asking travellers to leave the airport, the hotel is becoming part of the airport ecosystem itself.

The concept is also planned for Guwahati, where a 21-room Swirl Transit Hotel is proposed at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.

For Indian hospitality professionals, this could be an interesting new operating model to watch.
